Lauren Vance

Miss Covered Bridge, Lauren Vance

What's an interesting fact about you?

"I am the older sister to four younger brothers. Coming from a household of five children, I’ve learned a lot about leadership by example and humility. I spend a lot of time at the baseball field, but I wouldn’t have it any other way."

What's your favorite part of competition and why?

"Interview is always one of my favorite portions of competition. I thoroughly enjoy sharing my heart and plans with the judges, and am so thrilled to interview for the job of Miss Alabama so soon."

What's your Miss Alabama Service Initiative?

"I created my service initiative, 'The Two-Hour Challenge,' to empower people to take a step back from social media and screens for just 2 hours per day. Due to excessive screen time, our society has lost sight of the importance of face-to-face interactions and embracing the world around us. My passion is to remind people of the value of time apart from the screen, and to truly 'trade virtual for value.'"

What's your favorite part of competition and why?

"As a performance major, I will always love talent but my close second favorite is interview. I love any opportunity to speak about my Service Initiative, 'Music is Medicine.' I'm so excited to share my passion with the judges in just one week."

What's your Miss Alabama Service Initiative?

"My Service Initiative, Music is Medicine, educates on music's health benefits. I started Music is Medicine when my grandmother was diagnosed with Dementia as a way to connect and communicate with her. After her passing in October, I have continued Music is Medicine to educate all ages on how powerful music can be with our health. Using the gift that God gave me to perform and share my love of music has been such a blessing and something I will always be grateful for."

This is not your stereotypical idea of catty behavior and intense competition. It’s an environment of love and support. I’m grateful to be part of an organization that supports and empowers women not just as individuals but collectively. The Miss America Opportunity has truly changed my life. The sisterhood you find through that opportunity has brought me friendships I will cherish for a lifetime."

What's your Miss Alabama Service Initiative?

'Stomping Out ALS One Step at a Time' is my service initiative that I began about seven years ago. My grandfather battled a disease called amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) for 22 years. I grew up watching this disease take over his body and served as a young caregiver for him. I work to increase awareness of ALS and increase funding for research. The whole idea behind Stomping Out ALS is that the smallest steps can make the biggest differences. You can educate yourself, make a small donation, or participate in a community event and have a huge impact on the movement to find a cure for ALS. Those seemingly small individual actions become huge, collective change."

What's your Miss Alabama Service Initiative?"I founded my social impact initiative, 'F-O-S-T-E-R Spells Family,' in 2021 shortly after my niece, Vala, was adopted out of the foster system. I have dedicated this organization to helping young children prepare for their lives post-foster care. I was even fortunate enough to raise enough money to send a young girl graduating high school to cosmetology school. I believe that with the help of the Miss America Opportunity, I can work with state governments to provide additional funding for foster children after they age out of the system."

What's your favorite part of competition and why?

"I am most excited about on-stage conversation. It gives me the opportunity to share with the judges and all in attendance my passions within my service initiative, 'Kindness Cures.' It gives me a platform to share with a large audience the difference that a little kindness can make, especially during the cancer journey. Kindness is a gift than anyone can understand and that all can give, which is what is so unique about my SI."

What's your Miss Alabama Service Initiative?

"

My service initiative, Kindness Cures, is about the cancer journey for all cancer patients, especially the unrepresented and often forgotten ones. We all know that in October we wear pink for breast cancer, and there are numerous organizations that work with pediatric cancer patients, but what about the other 81% of all cancer patients? They deserve kindness and care just as much as children and breast cancer patients. Kindness Cures aims to close the gap between all cancer patients and the resources available to them. Kindness is a free gift that even children can understand, and promoting normalcy and radiating kindness is how we fight the cancer battle."
