Chase Sapphire Preferred and Sapphire Reserve bonus offers

Chase's increased welcome bonus offer gives you 75,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards® pointsafter spending $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months with the Sapphire Preferred or Reserve card. At a minimum, these points are worth $750 when you redeem them for cash back or gift cards but you'd get even more when you use the points for travel through Chase Travel℠.

Here's a breakdown of the travel redemption value for each card:

  • Sapphire Preferred: Points are worth 1.25 cents each making 75,000 Chase points worth $937.50.
  • Sapphire Reserve: Points are worth 1.5 cents each making 75,000 Chase points worth $1,125.

You can also maximize your points by transferring them to Chase's travel partners at a 1:1 ratio. This includes 14 airline and hotel partners, such as World of Hyatt, Air Canada Aeroplan, Emirates Skywards, and more.

Who's eligible for these offers?

To be eligible for the bonus on either Sapphire card, you must be a new applicant. That means current Sapphire Preferred or the Sapphire Reserve cardholders won't qualify.

You also can't have earned a welcome bonus from any Sapphire card in the previous 48 months. Finally, the unofficial Chase 5/24 rule also applies, meaning if you opened five or more credit cards from any bank in the past 24 months, you're less likely to be approved for a new Chase credit card.

Alternative cards

If you aren't interested in either Chase card, the Citi Strata Premier℠ Card is another great travel rewards card to consider. It currently offers a generous welcome bonus of 70,000 ThankYou® Points after spending $4,000 in the first 3 months of account opening and you get a range of travel perks such as a $100 annual hotel savings benefit. You can transfer your ThankYou points to Citi's travel partners to maximize their value, but you should know that unlike Chase, Citi lacks popular loyalty programs such as World of Hyatt and Southwest Rapid Rewards in its network.

The American Express® Gold Card can also be a great alternative card to the Sapphire Reserve, especially if a big portion of your budget goes towards food. The Amex Gold earns 4X Membership Rewards® points at restaurants worldwide and 4X points at U.S. supermarkets (up to $25,000 a year). And its annual fee of $250 (see rates and fees) is considerably less than the Chase Sapphire Reserve's $550 annual fee.
