Mobile authentication – an easy way to log on to HSBCnet

Tap into a smart and quick way to access HSBCnet.

Many users find that using a mobile phone to generate a security code via the HSBCnet Mobile app suits their business needs, instead of using a physical Security Device.

You may already be set up with Mobile authentication by default depending on the country/region you’re in, the type of user you are, or your organisational set up on HSBCnet.

To find out if you have access, download the HSBCnet Mobile app and attempt to activate Mobile authentication. If the Mobile authentication option is not showing up in your HSBCnet Mobile app settings:

  1. Your System Administrator needs to enable ‘Mobile devices’ on your user profile in User management.
  2. Once enabled, you can activate this feature in the HSBCnet Mobile app. Mobile authentication can be set up on a mobile device for multiple user profiles under different HSBCnet profile owners.

The HSBCnet Mobile app incorporates specific security measures to protect your information.

  • Unless you’re set up with Mobile authentication by your System Administrator, you need your HSBCnet Security Device to log on to the HSBCnet Mobile app.
  • Encryption: the HSBCnet Mobile app is encrypted using Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption technology (versions 1.2 and above).
  • Session time-out: similar to using HSBCnet from a computer, if you forget to log off, or your mobile device remains inactive for a period of time, the HSBCnet Mobile app will log you off automatically.

In addition to your obligation to comply with the general E-Channels Security Measures, you must ensure you also comply with the additional security requirements** relating to the HSBCnet Mobile app on your mobile device, including the following:

  • Don’t store your HSBCnet log on or profile details on your mobile device.
  • Make sure that your mobile device is updated with the latest manufacturer updates.
  • Don’t leave your mobile device unattended after logging on to the HSBCnet Mobile app. When you’re finished using HSBCnet, make sure to log off of HSBCnet and close the app.
  • When connecting to a wireless network using your mobile device, use only trusted networks or service providers and enable additional security protection, such as Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA), if possible.
  • Avoid using an unlocked mobile device or one with any unauthorised modifications when using the HSBCnet Mobile app.
  • Don't install applications on your mobile device from unknown sources.
  • Don’t share your mobile device with others. Enable automatic passcode/PIN lock features to prevent other people from using it if stolen.
  • Use a strong PIN that a hacker can’t easily guess or deduce and change it regularly. You can update your HSBCnet security PIN in the HSBCnet Mobile app settings at any time.

** For full details of your security obligations in using the HSBCnet Mobile app, please refer to the E-Channels Security Measuresdocument.
