USCIS Issues Notices Extending Certain TPS EADs Through March 9, 2025

USCISis issuingForm I-797, Notice of Action, to certain Temporary Protected Status (TPS) beneficiaries who are eligible to re-register for TPS or have a pending application to renew their Form I-766, Employment Authorization Document (EAD).

USCIS Updates Have A New Email Address

On June 18, USCIS updated its email messaging service to enhance the security and authenticity of its communications. Messages will now come from uscis@messages.dhs.gov rather than the previously used “@public.govdelivery.com” domain.Additionally, messages will now be consistently sent as bulletins on behalf of our DHS Secretary and USCIS Director. Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Ethiopia Extended and Redesignated for 18 Months; Certain EADs Automatically Extended Through June 12, 2025

Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkasextended and redesignated Ethiopia for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) from June 13, 2024, through Dec. 12, 2025. Nationals of Ethiopia and individuals with no nationality who last habitually resided in Ethiopia may submit an initial registration application under the redesignation of Ethiopia for TPS and apply for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD). Current beneficiaries who want to maintain their status must re-register and may apply for new EADs.

Secretary of Homeland Security Implements Employment Authorization for Palestinians Covered Under Deferred Enforced Departure

Based on the Feb. 14, 2024, presidentialmemorandum on DED for Palestinians, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas is implementing employment authorization through Aug. 13, 2025, for Palestinians covered by Deferred Enforced Departure (DED). When an individual covered by DED receives an Employment Authorization Document with a Category Code of A11, they can show that they are authorized to work for Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification.For additional information, see the Federal Register notice implementing DED for Palestinians as well as the USCIS webpage onDED for Palestinians.

Ukrainian Employees with Parole

USCISrecently announced that beginning Feb. 27, 2024, certain Ukrainian citizens and their immediate family members displaced by the Russian invasion and paroled into the United States, will be able to request an extension of parole (re-parole) for up to two additional years.

Temporary Final Rule to Increase Employment Authorization and/or Employment Authorization Document Validity for Eligible Renewal Applicants

On April 8, 2024, the Department of Homeland Security published a temporary final rule (89 FR 24628) that temporarily increasesthe automatic extension period of employment authorization and/or Employment Authorization Documents (Form I-766 or EAD) from up to 180 days to up to 540 days from the expiration date on the face of the EAD.

TPS for Burma (Myanmar) Extended and Redesignated for 18 Months; Certain EADs Automatically Extended Through May 25, 2025

Nationals of Burma and individuals with no nationality who last habitually resided in Burma may submit an initial registration application under the redesignation of Burma for TPS and apply for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD). Current beneficiaries who want to maintain their status must re-register and may apply for a new EAD.
