Slow Cooker Bacon Jam
This recipe was inspired by the Bacon Jam recipe from Martha Stewart except that I opted to chop my bacon into smaller pieces prior to adding it to the stove mixture.
This to me makes it a little bit easier to process it after it is done cooking in the slow cooker.
Of course, you can opt to keep the bacon in larger pieces allowing for a chunky bacon jam which is delicious too.
Bacon jam may sound a bit weird but really it is AWESOME. There is just this fantastic flavor combination of salty, sweet and tart that makes it so delicious.
10 Ways To Use Bacon Jam
- Spread it on your morning toast, bagel or English muffin… classic!
- Spoon it over a block of softened cream cheese and let party guests dip crackers into it for a fantastic dip.
- Put it on a homemade hamburger for an amazing experience!
- Top a meatloaf with it instead of the classic ketchup and brown sugar glaze many meatloaf recipes call for.
- Glaze some vegetables with it… for instance I like to roast carrots or Brussels sprouts in the oven until browned and soft and then toss them in a little bacon jam while they are still hot.
- Put a little on the bread when making a grilled cheese sandwich.
- Set out some bacon jam on a cheese board at your next party.
- Add to Alfredo sauce and serve with pasta.
- Substitute bacon jam for sliced bacon in a BLT sandwich.
- Roast potatoes until crispy and then toss in a couple of spoonfuls of bacon jam.
How Long Does Bacon Jam Last In The Refrigerator?
While bacon jam is called a jam this is not one of those recipes that you can in jars for long term storage in your pantry. You can eat your bacon jam immediately after making it but for long term storage bacon jam should be kept in the refrigerator for 2 to 4 weeks. You can also store it longer in your freezer. Just put it in a food safe freezer container, label it so you know what is in the container and stash it away in the freezer for up to 1 year. When you are ready to use the bacon jam thaw it out in the refrigerator overnight.
